Our Story
Where passion meets purpose. Meet the people behind Salted Studio.

Meet Dwayne & Jean
SĀLTED STUDIO is a whānau-owned hair salon grounded in our connection to Tūranganui-a-Kiwa.
Dwayne and Jean Pomana have stepped into this space with a vision to honour what already exists, an established Māori-owned salon, a skilled team, and strong community ties, while bringing their own future direction, guided by whakapapa and our connection to the waitai and whenua.
We're grateful to Ashley Wilson, one of our key stylists, for the inception of name and vision in the new space. Additionally, to Caroline Kingi, the previous owner, whose support, insight, and trust made this transition possible.
At Sālted, we believe in intentional care. Every appointment is an opportunity to build confidence, strengthen connection, and ensure each person leaves feeling genuinely seen.
We work with quality products to deliver quietly premium results. No hype, no pretence. Just exceptional hair and authentic manaakitanga.
Why Salted Studio?
“Salted Studio was named because salt does so much. It preserves, it strengthens, it cleanses and it brings out the best. That's exactly what we love doing with hair: helping people feel like the best version of themselves while keeping their hair healthy and strong. The name is also inspired by the sea and beaches that surround us here in Te Tairāwhiti (Gisborne). At the heart of it is Jean Pomana. Her energy and presence set the tone for everything we do. The macron above the “a” represents diversity, a reminder that everyone is welcome here. Salted is about connection, care, and creating a space that feels like home, where hair and people both shine.”

Meet the Team
The talented stylists behind every transformation.

Ashley Wilson
Senior Stylist & Co-Founder
I’m Ash, 33, with a family of 4. When I’m not in the salon I’m soaking up time with my whānau. I’ve been passionate about hairdressing for a long time and after having my daughter at 26 I decided to follow that passion. Now qualified, it’s been so rewarding. I love making people feel good through their hair and building strong, trusted relationships.
Moana Kingi
Senior Stylist & Manager
I’m Moana, 32, and a proud mum to one beautiful daughter. My hairdressing journey began in Auckland before continuing in Rotorua. Now I’ve returned home to Gizzy and I’m loving it. Creating a relaxed, comfortable space in my chair is really important to me. I love a great restyle, choppy textured cuts, signature blow waves, and everything from lived-in blondes to bold colour.
Prathana Kumar
Apprentice Stylist
I’m Prathana, a first-year apprentice with salon experience. I’ve always had a passion for hairdressing and beauty. I love interacting with clients and meeting new people, and I’m always exploring outside my comfort zone. I can’t wait to build up my clientele and be a part of Sālted Studio.
Jessie Collier
Senior Stylist
I’m Jessie, 27, a mum to one little girl. Born and raised in Gisborne, I started my hairdressing journey in Wellington but soon returned home because you can’t beat Gisborne. I especially love working with long hair and have a passion for sleek, sun-kissed colours and fresh blunt cuts. Seeing someone leave beaming with confidence is the best part of my job.
